This family had a small decking area to the rear of their property. It was unsafe and literally rotting away.
Access from the patio doors and onto the lower garden was a challenge for the young children and impossible for elderly relatives.
The space was under utilised with a large sloping area which had become overgrown with weeds.
We extended and raised the decking height to provide a single step access from the patio doors.
We changed the layout of the steps so that access to the lower garden was safe and easy.
We added an attractive balustrade which opened up above a new climbing wall for the children to play on.
We started by clearing the old deck and weeds along the unused sloping area.
Next we built the retaining wall for a raised border and the deck framing raising the height to a more accessible level.
We constructed the main steps along the side of the sloping area making better use of this space and providing safer access.
Laying the decking boards and screening off the garage was the most satisfying aspects of this project, capturing the scale of the space created.
The finishing touches included additional walling around the lower steps and adding lighting providing an attractive feature during the darker months.
The new deck layout has completely transformed the garden. The family has fed back they love the space and can't wait to add climbing holds to the wall.
